Senate moves to scrap NHIS
The legislative framework that will have the National Health Insurance Commission replace the National Health Insurance Scheme NHIS is currently in the works in the Nigerian Senate.
Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that the Bill for an Act to repeal the NHIS Act and establish the National Health Insurance Commission scaled second reading on the floor of the Upper Chamber at plenary Thursday.
Deliberation on the Bill was preceded by Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe who led the debate, with Ogun Central Senator, Ibikunle Amosun buying into the idea behind the Bill.
The Bill was subsequently referred to the Committee on Health with the mandate of reporting back to the Senate in four weeks.
