$18.72bn : Senate Set Up Seven-Man Committee to Probe Centenary's City Abuja Project
The Nigerian Senate has set up an ad-hoc Committee to investigate the Centenary City Project so as to ascertain the factors impeding its completion.
The Upper Chamber also urged Federal Government to Prioritize Abuja Centenary City Project for economic revival
Galaxy TV reports that these were part of the resolution reached to investigate the project following a motion sponsored by Senator Yisa Ashiru for alleged irregularities surrounding the $18.72billion Centenary City project.
However in supporting the motion, some lawmakers expressed their reservations over the setting up of an ad-hoc committees when standing committees could be coopted.
After deliberation on the motion, President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio named Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin as the chairman of the committee, charged with the responsibility of investigating the reasons why 10 years after it was approved, the Abuja Centenary City Project has stalled.
The committee is expected to report back in four weeks.
