Edo Poll: IGP approves relief fund for deceased and injured officers
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the immediate disbursement of relief funds to the families of officers involved in a fatal motor accident on September 24, 2024.
The officers were returning from Edo Elections Special Duty to Kano State Command when the accident occurred along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, Karfi Kura.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of five officers, while 11 others were hospitalized. Eight of the injured have since been discharged after receiving medical care, while three remain under treatment.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has approved a compensatory payment of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000) to the families of the deceased officers, recognizing their profound loss and providing support during this difficult time.
Additionally, the IGP approved the sum of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) for those still receiving medical treatment, ensuring their continued care, and Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) for those who have been discharged.
The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to supporting its officers and their families in times of need.
He expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the swift recovery of those still undergoing treatment.
