Strike: Meeting between NLC and House of Reps Ends in Deadlock
The speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila is currently meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress over Congress' plan to embark on industrial action due to the hike in electricity and petrol prices.
The Congress and its affiliates have written to the public and federal government informing them of their intention to embark upon strike against the increase on the prices.
The meeting which held closed doors was to prevail on the Congress to shelve the plans.
President of NLC Ayuba Wabba told journalists that the meeting was part of the speaker’s moves to lure the Congress to shelve the industrial action.
On the national industrial court's order suspending the planned strike, Wabba said they have not been served with the restraining order.
Meetings of the Congress and the federal government led by the minister of labour and employment Dr Chris Ngige had ended in a deadlock with no resolutions.
