TCN offers recipes for increased power generation and transmission
The Transmission Company has listed Transmission Infrastructure vandalization, aging equipment, payment of compensation for acquisition of transmission lines right of way among other as some of the challenges facing power transmission in the country.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Engr. (Dr) Sule Ahmed Abdul Aziz, while making a presentation before Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Power in Abuja said, TCN has implemented effective Frequency Control and Load Balancing as this is evident in the drastic reduction in the instances of partial and full system collapses, ensuring a consistent and reliable power supply to consumers.
According to him, there is increased grid visibility as the in-house engineers made use of IoT with the implementation of Automatic Meter Reading Infrastructure adding that the company has commenced the implementation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to enable real-time monitoring and control of the power grid.
As part of measures to sustain the recent development in electricity supply in the country, Engr. Abdulaziz stressed the need for the Federal Ministry of power to support the drive of Discos to improve their viability and efficiency, improve funding of FGN projects across the country as well as provide Regulatory support and foresting partnership.
On his part, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, who spoke on behalf of other members said that it was good to provide infrastructure adding that what is more important is how to safeguard the infrastructure.
He said that the power sector should find a way of incorporating the local vigilantes in the protection of its infrastructure. According to him, the better policeman is a policeman that is local.
